In New Orleans, cemeteries are not actually very spooky, but places of serious architectural beauty, as evidenced by Richard Sexton’s marvelous photograph of the Ribas Tomb, available at Richter Gallery. Sexton shot the tomb at St. Louis Cemetery Number One, which was consecrated in 1789. The oldest in the city, it is still in use and contains the remains of many famous New Orleanians, including Voodoo Priestess Marie Laveau and at least one of Jean Lafitte’s pirates.
