Vince Lombardi at Super Bowl II
Art & Photography January 24th, 2012
No wonder the Super Bowl trophy is named after Vince Lombardi; he won the first two ever, following the 1966 and 1967 seasons. During his entire NFL career, Lombardi never had a losing season. Neil Leifer, the legendary Time Inc. photographer who captures him here, has enjoyed a similarly successful career. His first cover shot for Sports Illustrated “of the first overtime game in NFL history” was taken in 1958 when Leifer was just 19. Since then he’s captured everyone from Bear Bryant and Muhammad Ali to Ronald Reagan and Paul Newman on film. For more of Leifer’s sports photos, visit Richter Gallery on Taigan.com.
