Just Back From Vail Valley

Travel January 28th, 2014 — by:

There’s something magical about being in the mountains in the middle of winter. Snowy, peaceful. Somehow it’s quieter, the air lighter, and it dawns on you just how gorgeous nature is. Earlier this month, I flew out to Vail, Colorado with hotelier friends & colleagues to explore Vail, Beaver Creek, and Bachelor Gulch. While I’m not a down-hill skier, I absolutely love strapping on snow-shoes to get out into the back bowls with my camera. And let’s be honest, hot cocoa was made for a backdrop like this.

If you’ve been thinking about a ski vacation, there are still several months left to this season and record amounts of snow! And whether you’re dreaming of Whistler, Vail, or Megève, below are some Taigan finds to have you tootling through those mountain towns in winter-style.

Venice is consistently ranked among the top cities coveted by travelers the world over. And as a travel adviser I can attest to that. It’s iconic and sexy, from the narrow paths that sometimes end at steps to the water to the hidden squares with their charming cafés tucked away. The small churches and art galleries, and churches that have been turned into art galleries. The cuisine, the style, the way of life that is so different from nearly anywhere else in the world. I recently visited Venice while traveling northern Italy and found myself more in love with the city than ever before. From early morning walks through the gondola docks to afternoons spent sipping cappuccino in St. Mark’s Square to late nights restaurant-hopping with my husband in a quest to find the best pasta… If Venice has always been on your travel list, below are several recommendations for where to stay, where to eat, and what to see – Plus some fabulous Taigan Finds reminiscent of this romantic city.

Now that the temps are finally starting to drop in the desert, a long weekend in Las Vegas sounds more enticing than ever. I’ve just returned from another visit to the City that Never Sleeps, and in addition to some fantastic memories, I got back on the plane with a new favorite hotel and list of hot dining spots to add to my little Black Book. Hitting the road for Labor Day weekend? We’ve collected some tried and true road trip essentials for every age!

Pictured above, top row, from left:

No need to sit in silence! Take the pensive route, with this conversation provoking “Life’s Little Instruction Book“. It’s full of  one sentence wisdom, and you’re sure to feel like a better person by the time you reach your destination.

Add a bit of humor to the trip with Les Moustaches. See who can keep a straight face at the next gas station wearing one of these!

Feeling a bit grimy from being in the car? Not to worry. 29 Cosmetics’ Travel Cream Cleanser and Napa Mist will have you feeling fresh in no time!

Why is it that the person controlling the air is always warm natured? If you’re like us and tend to freeze on the road then be sure to pack one of Grace Hays’ Mohair Throws to stay warm.

Second row, from left:

Stickers are a great way to keep kids occupied. Especially if you don’t mind finding them all over your car for weeks to come. We love this travel themed set for the road!

Don’t forget the snacks! Step up your game and bring this crowd pleaser from Notti Toffee. With toffee, sugar cookies and cheese wafers there really is something for everyone.

Play cards, or learn a thing or two with the Gentleman’s Deck. Each card is also equipped with a tip or tidbit on how to become the perfect gentleman.

Crayons are one of those childhood pleasures that are fun to revisit at any age. Pair them with this instructional coloring book and you’re set for hours of entertainment!
