Beautiful Beige

It sounds like an oxymoron, “beautiful beige,” but it’s not, at least according to the late Albert Hadley, one of the most talented interior designers of the 20th century. “Beige is atmosphere,” Hadley once said, “It’s bisque, it’s ivory, it’s cream, it’s stone, it’s toast, it’s cappuccino. It’s, well, it’s magic.” Image from Architectural Digest.

These days, beige gets knocked around quite a bit. But it’s not bland, it’s soothing, not simple, it’s stunning. It doesn’t need to just provide a background for brighter accent colors; it can just as well stand on its own.
