Summer Makeover
Design May 15th, 2012
Your closet isn't the only thing that needs a warm weather re-do. Switch out everything from pillows to rugs with these cool accessories and instantly summerize your space.
Pictured above, top row, from left:
Elizabeth Stockton's aptly named “Unwind” is a 24″ by 36″ oil on canvas and is guaranteed to keep you centered, calm, and cool on even the hottest of summer days.
Found's nicely priced square garden stool is perfect for pool house or porch, the sunroom or summer house—and even a living room with upholstered furniture that's been dressed for the season in ticking or white duck. Buy more than one—they're just the place for cocktails, a glass of lemonade, or a stack of summer reading.
We love a slipcovered room in summer, but that fresh white sofa and matching armchairs will require some updated pillows. This linen embroidered version comes in our favorite blue summer neutral and is also the perfect size (22″ square).
This metal “olive basket” from Iris & Co. delivers a seriously powerful style punch to almost any room of the house. It would look great filled with everything from seashells and summer kindling (think fabulous found driftwood) to beach toys or the weekend newspapers.
Bottom row, from left:
This Aztec pottery lamp from Digs is priced far below similar “designer” versions and comes with a chic cream paper shade. Best of all, it combines summer's best colors—creams and beiges, browns and blues—to serve as a great looking neutral.
This “Ocean Box” frayed linen pillow is another perfectly-sized throw (22″ square) in our favorite summer blue and white.
Found's raffia covered cube offers instant summer seating that is both practical and chic—and that can follow you from room to room.
Roll up those dark Orientals and replace them with Gregory Newham's diamond texture handwoven rugs. Shown in a color way that incorporates three different shades of blue with a natural white, they can be made in any size and color. We love the lovely lift they lend to summer rooms, as well as their feel under foot.
