Perk Up

The Elusive Find October 18th, 2011

It turns out that both caffeine AND Scrabble might be exactly what the doctor ordered, especially for women. So how cool is it that these coffee mugs from And George, printed with Scrabble letters, combine the two? Researchers have long said that “thinking” board games like Scrabble can reduce the risk of Alzheimers, as well as depression. Now, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine has found that women who drank two to three cups of coffee a day reduced their risk of depression by 15 percent, compared to women who consumed only one cup a week. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health looked at 50,000 women for more than ten years and the more they drank the better they fared. Those who drank four cups a day reduced their risk of depression by 20 percent—with no adverse effects to their general health. Clearly it’s time to crank up the coffee pot, get out the Scrabble board, and show off these mugs. Come on, get happy!
